My favourite subject growing up was History β€” not just the chapters, but the feeling of it. The weight of time, the forgotten kings, the civilizations buried in sand. And somewhere between dusty textbooks and wild imagination, Egypt became the place. A land of pyramids and gods, deserts and golden tombs β€” mysterious, magnificent, and forever calling.

Also, full disclosure: The Mummy was my favourite movie for years. I knew the dialogues by heart, wanted to be Evie (bookish and brave), and had a very real, very unshakable crush on Brendan Fraser. So yes, Egypt had been sitting on top of my bucket list since childhood β€” part cinematic dream, part historical obsession.

I imagined silence, sandstorms, crumbling temples, and time standing still.

And then it happened in December 2022.

I landed in Cairo on a crisp December evening β€” not quite ready for the city’s chaos, but oddly comforted by it. There was something familiar in the honking cars, the disorderly charm of streetlights, and the desert chill that greeted me at the airport.

I had no idea yet that I was about to step into a living museum β€” intriguing, crumbling , yet brilliant .

From Cairo to the Nile, Egypt unfolded like a scroll β€” all gods, kings, and golden sand. I watched the sun rise over Luxor, stood in silence at Abu Simbel, and floated in the Red Sea. Every place felt ancient, and somehow still alive.
