In Search of My Ikigai 🌟

The Japanese word Ikigai (生き甲斐) is often translated as “a reason for being” or “a reason to wake up in the morning.”

At first glance, it sounds like a search for life’s ultimate purpose. But the Japanese understanding of ikigai is much simpler—and perhaps much more beautiful.

It isn’t always about finding one grand mission or changing the world.

Instead, it can be found in the quiet moments that give our days meaning.

For some, it’s tending to a garden every morning.

For others, it’s cooking for family, creating art, going for a run, or getting lost in the pages of a book.

Ikigai isn’t necessarily one destination. It’s the collection of moments, passions, relationships, and routines that make life feel worth living.

Perhaps that’s why there is no single definition that fits everyone.

Each person’s ikigai is deeply personal, shaped by their experiences, values, and the things that bring them a quiet sense of fulfillment.

The journey, then, is not about discovering someone else’s purpose.

It is about discovering your own.

We are all searching for our own ikigai in different ways.

I’m still discovering mine.

Maybe it’s hidden in the books I read, the places I explore, the people I admire, and the moments that quietly change the way I see the world.

I don’t know where the journey will lead, but I think that’s the beauty of it. It gives me a reason to explore, to learn, and to get back up each day with a sense of curiosity and excitement.

What’s yours? 🍃
